  1. Can I order a card for my child?
      Yes, as long as your child meets the qualifications.
  2. How old do I have to be to get a card?
      The card is recommended for teenagers and adults. DIG recommends that the person be at least 15 years old to request a card.
  3. Do I need to watch the video on your website?
      Yes, the video will explain how to safely use the wallet card. It is very important to watch the video before you use the card.
  4. Will this card keep me from getting arrested?
      No, if you break the law, you will be arrested.  The purpose of this card is to clarify any misunderstanding you might have with the police because of your disability.  It is NOT a “get out of jail free” card.
  5. Will a police officer know that I have a wallet card?No, the police officer does not know if you have a wallet card.
      You will need to ask permission to show the officer your wallet card.
  6. Why does DIG need my email address?
      In case DIG has any questions, we can contact you. Sometimes we need to ask questions about the information that is sent to us.
  7. Why does DIG need my mailing address?
      We need to send you the wallet card. We will mail the card to you.  Please send us a correct address or we cannot send the card to you.
  8. Do we need to give you two names for the emergency contact person?
      No, you can give us one name or two.
  9. Can we list more than two people for the emergency contact person?
      No, there is not enough room on the card for more than two emergency contact names.
  10. What information is on the card?
      * The card tells the officer that ASD is a social/communication disability. It talks about difficulty making eye contact that a cardholder might not be able to understand or comprehend the police’s questions, that a cardholder might have trouble expressing themselves, that a cardholder might have trouble communicating with others.
      * The card tells the officer not to assume that their behavior is suspicious.
      *The card tells the officer that the PWD would like to cooperate. It asks the officer to identify themselves, to avoid touching and/or restraining the PWD if possible and to talk slowly, directly, and to use clear and concrete language.
      *The card says that a person might speak too loudly, softly, or with unusual intonation.
      *The card says that a person might be sensitive to loud noises or flashing lights and be nervous and or overwhelmed.
  11. Do we need to customize the wallet card?
      No, the card is ready to go for you without any customization.
  12. Can I customize the wallet card?
      If you have a specific trigger that you feel is important for the police to know, DIG can customize your wallet card. On the application, you can either choose from the suggestions, or you can write in your own suggestion.  Please remember that there is not a lot of room on the card.  DIG will do its best to customize your card the way you would like it.
      * Remember, the most we can do is add three customized items to the card.
  13. Do I need to list a second disability?
      No, this is an option for customization on the card.
      If you do want to add a second disability, it should only be added if it is something that an officer would need to know quickly to assess a situation.
  14. Can DIG send me a sample card?
      No, the police department has asked DIG not to send out sample cards. This is to make sure that the card is not copied.
  15. Can I order a card if I live outside of Miami-Dade County, Florida?
      Yes, as long as you meet the qualifications.
  16. How long will it take to receive my card?
      On average it takes about 1 week to get your card. The mail at DIG is very slow so it could take up to 10 days to receive your card.  If you are concerned about your card getting lost in the mail please email DIG at: walletcard@justdigit.org

  17. Can I order a card if I live outside of the United States?
      Yes, as long as you meet the qualifications.
      Yes, but you will need to make a $2.00 donation to our website /donate-now/ to cover the cost of the international postage.
  18. How long will it take to receive my card internationally?
      It should take about 4 weeks to receive your card if it is being mailed internationally.
      DIG will send you a USPS tracking number, by email, once the card is finished.
  19. Will my name be put into a registry?
      No, your name and information will not be put into a public registry.
      * Your name and information will be put into a secure database by DIG.
      * You will not receive any solicitations and DIG will not give out your information to anyone or any organization.
      * Your email address will be added automatically to DIG’s newsletter list. If you do not want to receive the DIG newsletter just unsubscribe when you receive the newsletter.
  20. Can I have my friend be my emergency contact?
      Yes, as long as that person knows about your disability and does not mind being your emergency contact.
  21. Can my doctor, teacher, therapist, or counselor be my emergency contact?
      DIG does not recommend this. You need to put a person that will answer the phone and be available any time. Usually, a doctor or professional will give you an office number that will not be answered after hours or on the weekends.
      If you do put a doctor or professional on the card, please ask them first and get a number that they will answer at any time.
  22. Is this card an ID Card?
      No, this is not an ID Card. It is not meant to replace any state or government identification card.
  23. Can I add medical information on the request?
      No, this is not a medical alert card. This is a tool to help a person with a disability communicate with the police. DIG will not put medications or medical information on the card.
  24. Can I list my allergies on this card?
      No, this card should not list allergies.
  25. Can I have more than one card?
      No, DIG will issue one card per person.
  26. Can I pay to have more than one card?
      No, DIG will only issue one card per person.
  27. What do I do if I lose my card?
      If you lose your card, email DIG at walletcard@justdigit.org and DIG will replace your wallet card. There will be a $5.00 charge to replace the wallet card.
  28. Can I make a donation to DIG to support this project?

  29. Can I have a card if I have a different disability?
      No, not right now. DIG hopes to expand the project in the future and to add more disabilities.  If you have a suggestion, please email it to DIG at walletcard@justdigit.org

  30. Can I have a card if I am non-verbal?
        No, not right now. DIG is in the process of making a card specifically for people with ID/DD or ASD that are non-verbal.  Please join the DIG newsletter to stay up to date on when this part of the project will be completed. /newsletter-subscription
  31. Can I have a card for my young child with ID/DD and/or ASD?
        No, not right now. DIG is in the process of making a card specifically for younger children with ID/DD and/or ASD.  Usually, younger children are not out in the community independently by themselves.  Please join the DIG newsletter to stay up to date on when this part of the project will be completed. /newsletter-subscription
  32. Can I have a card for my adult child with ID/DD and/or ASD that is not independently out in the community?
      No, not right now. DIG is in the process of making a card specifically for less independent adults with ID/DD and/or ASD.  Please join the DIG newsletter to stay up to date on when this part of the project will be completed. /newsletter-subscription/

  36. How can I share this project with my local school system or private school?

      Yes, if your organization adopts our project, we have a press release template that we can email to you.
